About the Opportunity

PolicyWise currently has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Specialist to join our team in Edmonton, AB, in a part-time or full-time basis with a 6-month probationary period. 

Reporting to a manager, the Communications Specialist will be part of PolicyWise’s communications team, leading internal communications activities and fulfilling corporate communications priorities including government relations and event management. This role works closely with our Knowledge Mobilization Specialist, the President & CEO, and the communications team.

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing procedures for corporate communications, media and government relations, and issues identification/management
  • Maintaining internal and external communication channels: social media, weekly updates, quarterly newsletters, and annual reports
  • Keeping up with current events in government and community sectors, and distributing this knowledge throughout PolicyWise
  • Assisting the senior leadership and management team in the development of presentations, key messages, and the Annual Report
  • Maintaining and championing visual identity standards, brand management, and targeted communications strategies
  • Providing communications and graphic design support to research and policy staff
  • Managing the website and populating it with relevant research articles, reports, links, and events
  • Providing copy edit support for external communications
  • Participating in the planning and management of events, coordinating logistics promoting events, and providing internal support

About You

To qualify for this position, you will need a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or similar, as well as a minimum 3 years of experience in a communications role, ideally in a social serving organization, non-profit, government office, or university. A relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.

As our ideal candidate for this role, you'll be a collaborative team player who also possesses:

  • Demonstrated experience with communications and public relations practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to produce creative and engaging corporate communications material, including reports, newsletters, and presentations
  • Strong capabilities with social media management
  • Proficiency with WordPress, Canva, Adobe, Figma, or similar
  • Understanding of research, social serving, and/or policy communities
  • Knowledge of research methods and knowledge mobilization (asset)

Lastly, you will be a great communicator who is able to work collaboratively across multiple projects in a dynamic environment. Your ability to prioritize tasks with competing deadlines is pivotal to your success in this role.
